MANILA – Nard John Pinto and Rodney Brondial will be wearing different uniforms when the 2021 PBA Governors’ Cup resumes from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) hiatus.
Pinto has agreed to a three-year contract with defending champions Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings on Friday after turning down a two-year extension from Meralco Bolts.
The 31-year-old former Arellano University Chiefs point guard is a welcome addition for the Gin Kings following the season-ending injury of star Stanley Pringle.
A Davao City native, Pinto has proven himself to be one of Meralco’s main point guard this season after it traded away Baser Amer to the Blackwater Bossing.
In his two games with the Bolts in the Governors’ Cup, the 5-foot-11 point guard submitted averages of 9.00 points, 2.50 rebounds, 5.50 assists and 1.00 steals.
Barangay Ginebra will be Pinto’s fifth team in the PBA after starting his career with GlobalPort Batang Pier before moving to Mahindra Enforcer, Blackwater and the Bolts.
Brondial, on the other hand, found a new home in San Miguel Beermen after turning down a two-year contract extension offered by the Alaska Aces on Thursday.
The 6-foot-5 Brondial had decent numbers in his first five games with the Aces in the Governors’ Cup where he normed 4.6 points and 3.6 rebounds in limited minutes.
At Beermen, Brondial is reunited with his former Adamson University Falcons mentor Leovino Austria but has to fight for his spot in a crowded frontline led by June Mar Fajardo, Moala Tautuaa and Vic Manuel.
The Beermen is the fifth PBA team of one-time PBA champion Brondial after starting his career with the Kings before moving to Phoenix Fuel Masters, Magnolia Pambansang Manok Hotshots and the Aces./PN
