KNOWN for starring in blockbuster films centered around drama and romance, the country’s heartthrob Piolo Pascual revealed why he was very excited to be offered his first ever horror film in the upcoming film “Mallari.”
The movie will have him playing the role of a priest who becomes the first documented serial killer in the Philippines.
“I’m actually a fan of horror films. I love watching horror so since na I got stuck with mga rom-coms, I had no chance to do any horror film. But seeing the project, reading it, and finding out the truthfulness of the character that I was going to portray, sabi ko this is really interesting. And when I googled the name Mallari and it came out as the first documented serial killer in the Philippines. I think, of course, this is a fictional film but it’s based on a true story. So sinabi ko there are a lot of films coming out from different countries because of the streaming platforms we are able to watch them and I think we should be proud of what we can give as well,” he shared.
During the media launch for the film, Piolo also talked about being fascinated with the supernatural even though he has never had any personal experience with it in his life.
“I love watching horror films and the supernatural. Based on the research, these are all just handed down through different generations. But that’s the magic of cinema and I can’t wait to see it happen when we shoot. My personal view on it I guess unless makakita ako, I pray and I haven’t experienced anything. I don’t want to say I welcome it or I’m open to it, but sana naman huwag ako takutin, di ba? Sana huwag naman ako ma-possess (laughs). I won’t go that far,” he said.
Last seen acting in the local adaptation of the South Korean series “Flower of Evil,” Piolo said he knows it will be a different kind of challenge playing the dark role of Father Mallari.
“This is going to be really hard for me physically exhausting, emotional draining, portraying three roles but I’m up for the challenge and I’m happy to be given this opportunity to be acting for this film because it’s quite an interesting story and an interesting character too,” he added. (PUSH)
