BACOLOD City — No one claimed ownership of the pirated compact discs (CDs) and digital video discs (DVDs) that Optical Media Board (OMB) personnel confiscated in a mall here.
Aside from the stall owners, the management of China’s 888 Mall may also face charges for violation of the Optical Media Act, said Manny Mangubat, head of the OMB Enforcement Unit.
OMB Enforcement Unit personnel swooped down on the stalls at about noon yesterday on Gatuslao Street, Barangay 9.
The cost of the confiscated items remains undetermined as of press time, but Mangubat said they may reach millions of pesos.
OMB operatives placed the CDs and DVDs in sacks during an inventory.
Mangubat said yesterday’s operation was ordered by OMB chair Ronnie Ricketts.
Two teams have been dispatched to conduct raids in this city and Negros Occidental, according to the OMB Enforcement Unit head.
Mangubat said they directly conduct operations without coordinating with the local police to avoid information leakage.
He said they may turn over the confiscated items to the police./PN
