ILOILO City – Pirated compact discs (CDs) and digital video discs (DVDs) with an estimated value of P28 million were seized in the City Proper and La Paz district yesterday.

Combined forces of the Optical Media Board (OMB), Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) and Regional Intelligence Office staged the operation beginning 3:30 p.m.

This is so far the biggest haul of pirated CDs and DVDs in Western Visayas, said Senior Superintendent Ruperto Floro, ICPO director.

Target of the operation were vendors on Huervana Street in La Paz and Valeria, Solis, Delgado, Iznart and Ledesma streets in the City Proper.

Exequiel Tuazon from the OMB oversaw the operation.

“The operation was part of our campaign against copyright infringement,” said Floro.

The total confiscations reached 250 sacks of CDs and DVDs.

“There were stalls selling pirated CDs and DVDs in Iloilo City,” said Superintendent Ipil Dueñas of the ICPO.

The confiscated materials will be destroyed this week./PN
