Plans for Ceneco assembly bared

BACOLOD City – Residents from eighteen villages in this city gathered at the Tay Tung High School gymnasium yesterday for the Pulong-pulong sa Barangay of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco).

The meeting tackled plans for the 42nd Annual General Membership Assembly (AGMA) slated this June 30.

The attendees were from villages under Ceneco’s District 3. They were barangays 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 40, and 41.

Among the things that were discussed during the meeting was the creation of member-consumer-owners (MCO) organization.

A consultation among village chiefs regarding the formation of the MCO organization was conducted on Monday, said Ceneco Institutional Services Department head Lolita Jayme.

Jayme added that the National Electrification Administration (NEA) directed the creation of the MCO organization, which will still be subject to a referendum.

The vote will be held during the AGMA, Jayme said.

Roel Venus, Ceneco Consumer Services Division head, said the village chiefs were tasked to disseminate information about the plan.

Residents from eight other Ceneco districts will also vote for the creation of their respective MCO organizations.

During the AGMA, member-consumers will also decide whether or not they want Ceneco to remain as a non-stock and non-profit cooperative under NEA, be registered under the Cooperative Development Authority as a stock and profit cooperative, or be registered under the Securities and Exchange Commission as a private corporation./PN
