MANILA – Negrense volleybelle Jennifer Cosas described her inclusion in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation’s women’s beach volleyball pool as a dream fulfilled.
“This is a dream come true for me to be selected and to represent the country,” Cosas told The Warbler Access.
A native of Silay City, Negros Occidental, the volleybelle hopes that her national team call-up will inspire other provincial athletes to strive more and work hard.
She extended her gratitude to the coaching staff for allowing her to train in Negros Occidental and to do her job as a teacher in Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School.
“I am thankful because besides my teaching profession, I can still play in this high level of competition without worrying about any conflict of my job,” the Negrense said.
Cosas was no stranger to volleyball competition as she and her partner, Gelimae Villanueva, recently clinched the championship in the Mayor Raymund I. Tongson’s Beach Volleyball Tournament in Himamaylan City.
The tandem also snatched the second runner-up during the Philippine Superliga Beach Volleyball tournament in Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority this year.
Cosas was one of the four Negros Occidental-based players to be called up for the national beach volleyball team aside from Bernadeth Pons, Alexa Polidario, and Erjane Magdato.
The national women’s beach volleyball team pool was culled by head coach Rhovyn Verayo based on those who showed up during the one-day tryout at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone on April 30./PN
