MANILA – PLDT High Speed Hitters scored two more recruits with less than a month to the 2022 Premier Volleyball League while also targeting a high-profile free agent volleybelle.
The High Speed Hitters on Wednesday announced on their Facebook page the acquisition of outside hitter Heather Guino-o and middle blocker Jules Samonte.
Guino-o and Samonte found their way to the rebuilding High Speed Hitters with their former team Perlas Spikers opting to take a leave due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
Guino-o was a former hitter for the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws in the UAAP before deciding to play for club volleyball teams.
Samonte, meanwhile, is a former standout of the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles and was part of the squad that won the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball title.
Aside from the two, the High Speed Hitters is currently in serious talks to acquire the services of former La Salle University Lady Spikers star Mika Reyes.
According to reports, the High Speed Hitters is a frontrunner to land the services of the free agent middle blocker but four other PVL teams are also negotiating with her.
“PLDT is one of the leading contenders in signing her up,” a source said. “But PLDT is not the only team she is talking to. She’s listening to other offers as well.”
The PLDT was one of the busiest teams in the Premier Volleyball League offseason after landing former Reyes teammates at Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors in Dell Palomata and Jovie Prado.
The squad also has Kath Arado, Wendy Semana, Lhara Clavano, Fiola Ceballos, Jessey de Leon, Mean Mendrez, while also retaining Rhea Dimaculangan, Chin Basas, Eli Soyud and Nieza Viray./PN
