PLDT overpowers Sta. Lucia in PH Superliga

MANILA – PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters recovered from two sets down to beat Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors, 22-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-20, 15-8, in the 2019 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at the Imus Sports Center in Imus, Cavite.

Jorelle Singh provided the spark by forcing the game into a deciding fifth set with timely hits before going for the kill with a game-winning attack to tow the Power Hitters to their first win in two matches.

Gretchel Soltones had triple-double 19 points, 19 digs and 18 excellent receptions while Singh came off the bench to contribute 16 hits and Jasmine Nabor made 25 excellent sets and three points for the Power Hitters.

“I was looking for the right combination. I already shuffled my whole lineup to find it. I’m glad that Jorelle delivered,” said Power Hitters head coach Roger Gorayeb. “Jorelle can kill the ball and outplay the blockers despite being small.”

The Lady Realtors dominated the first two sets but the Power Hitters came alive and took control of the third and fourth set with Singh stepping up and delivering the crucial blows.

The Lady Realtors completely collapsed in the fifth where it notched six of its 48 errors, allowing the Power Hitters to mount an 11-4 lead that set the stage for Singh’s game-winning hit.

Marjana Phillips tallied 19 points while Rachel Austero had 17 and Pamela Lastimosa chipped in 14 markers each for the Lady Realtors, which dropped to 1-2 win-loss record./PN
