BACOLOD City –The Provincial Legal Office (PLO) of Negros Occidental said yesterday morning it would try to release its decision on former Isabela municipal treasurer Nennette Escarda within 60 days of her ongoing preventive suspension.
PLO head Atty. Alberto Nellas Jr. said Escarda has chosen to submit her position paper instead of the formal investigation hearing.
Escarda was removed from her post for losing the town’s P6.4 million in government funds after her house in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, was allegedly burglarized.
The PLO head is confident that the case would be resolved within the effectiveness of the preventive suspension.
Aside from the 60-day suspension, Escarda was also slapped with administrative charges of grave misconduct, serious dishonesty and malversation of public funds.
On Jan. 21, Escarda reported to police that her house had been burglarized.
A total of P3.8 million in bank checks and P2.6 million in cash were taken./PN
