MANILA – The Philippine National Police-Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) is aiming to resolve the double murder case of Police Senior Master Sgt. Jonel Nuezca within a month.
PNP-IAS Inspector Gen. Atty. Alfegar Triambulo said if ever Nuezca will be found guilty, he will be disqualified from public service and will lose all his benefits except the conversion of his accumulated leaves to monetary value.
“Malaki pong bagay ‘yung video. Sabi nga ‘yung picture or video na ‘yan speak a thousand words.”
On Sunday afternoon, Nuezca shot his neighbors – Sonya Gregorio, 52, and Frank Anthony Gregorio, 25 – several times following an argument over the latter’s use of an improvised cannon or “boga” in Tarlac’s Paniqui town.
As seen on the now-viral videos, the murders happened after Nuezca’s minor daughter was briefly mocked by Sonya. This triggered the policeman, who then shot dead the unarmed mother and son.
The policeman, who is assigned at the Parañaque City police crime laboratory, was off-duty when the incident took place. He later surrendered to Paniqui police and will face double murder charges.
Meanwhile, the PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Ildebrandi Usana said the brutal killing of the civilians will not spur any changes in the organization as earlier reforms have been implemented.
“I guess what [Police Master Senior Sgt. Jonel] Nuezca did something that will not even trigger any change at all in the PNP because we have had many changes [that] had already been initiated,” Usana said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel.
“This particular case actually will not make the PNP as if we’re totally wrong because as I was saying, this is an isolated case. The murder criminal action has already been filed. The [officer’s] dismissal will be forthcoming. The PNP will have to move on from there,” he added./PN
