ILOILO CITY – The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) is not planning to assassinate Mayor Oscar Garin Sr. of Guimbal, Iloilo and his son Iloilo 1st District representative Richard Garin, said Philippine National Police chief General Oscar Albayalde.

He fielded this statement in light of text messages spreading that the CIDG is plotting against the Garins over the mauling of Corporal Federico Macaya Jr. in Guimbal in December 2018.

“That is probably fake news,” stressed Albayalde, who was in Iloilo City on Friday for the command conference of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) in view of the May 13 midterm elections.

He also said the assassination plot has not been validated by PRO-6 and the Iloilo Provincial Police Office.

Wala namang validated [report] coming from the regional office and from the province na there is such thing as an assassination plot. Wala kaming nakuhang ganoon,” said Albayalde.

According to Albayalde, the Garins went to his office weeks after the mauling incident to apologize.

“In fairness sa mga Garins, a few weeks after nang nangyari sa kanila they went to my office. They were actually apologetic. With what happened sincere naman sila. And wala naman tayong nabalitaan kung ano ang gusto nilang gawin,” said the PNP chief.

CIDG Region 6 director Colonel Benliner Capili also denied the assassination plot against the Garins.

Hindi ko alam kung saan nag-originate ang messages nayan. I vehemently deny the allegations. Hindi naman gagawin ng pulis natin ‘yan,” said Capili.

He added that they will into the information and trace its source.

“I want to see kung saan nangagaling ‘yan. Baka sinisira lang ‘yung image ng PNP to discredit the police,” the CIDG regional head said./PN
