MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it has not monitored any security threat against Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio following the reduction of her security.
According to PNP chief Rommel Marbil, the Vice President is being loved by the people and no one will attempt to harm her even with diminished security.
“Wala po siyang threat [sa buhay], wala po kaming nakita. She’s being loved by our people,” Marbil said during an inquiry by the Senate’s Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs on Monday.
Marbil added that there was no political pressure to reduce the Vice President’s police security, pointing out that there are other government officials with reduced security.
“Tinanggalan natin because we don’t see any threat sa ibang tao at ang sinasabi ko nga kung meron pong reason, ibibigay po natin,” Marbil said.
Marbil also stated that the PNP are ready to help if asked by the Presidential Security Command (PSC), which secures the two highest officials of the country.
The PNP chief further said there are still 31 police personnel left to secure the vice president, but he maintained they were not Duterte-Carpio’s choices.
Committee chair Sen. Ronald dela Rosa then appealed to Marbil to give Duterte-Carpio the choice of who would be the police personnel assigned to her as.
Marbil said Duterte-Carpio is still being secured by 358 personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, adding they used to have 106 personnel deployed to the vice president as augmentation to the PSC./PN
