PNP intensifies drive against bullying amid class opening

MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) intensified its drive against bullying in schools by forming a task unit that will focus on it ahead of the start of classes on Monday.

PNP spokesman police Colonel Bernard Banac said victims of bullying must immediately report such cases to the authorities for a swift investigation and apprehension if necessary.

However, Banac said the police can only intervene if the school administration permitted or unless the bullying happened outside the academe or through the internet.

“Napakahalaga na makuhaan agad ng statement ang biktima at makuha ‘yung evidence sa online nang sa gayon ay makapagsampa tayo ng kaso, unang-una, maimbestigahan muna,” Banac said.

He added the PNP became proactive in spreading awareness about the Anti-Bullying Act (Republic Act 102627) and the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act (Republic Act 9344).

Banac said they conducted intelligence and information gathering against possible kidnappers in schools, presence of improvised explosive devices, and other threats.

The police were tasked to keep an eye on street criminals such as snatchers, robbers, and even drug dealers, while inspection of dormitories and school facilities will be done upon invitation by school authorities. /PN
