Pokwang’s ‘Oda sa Wala’ up for best picture in Malaysian film fest

THE nominations for the 3rd Malaysian Golden Global Awards have been revealed, with a host of Filipino talent being recognized in top categories.

Pokwang has been given a nod in the best actress category for her role in “Oda sa Wala” while her co-star Joonee Gamboa is being recognized as best supporting actor. They are joined by “Liway” stars Glaiza de Castro and Dominic Roco.

Both “Oda sa Wala” and “Liway” are up for best picture.

The other nominations “Oda sa Wala” got are for its director, Dwein Baltazar, for best screenplay, and for best cinematography.

“Oda sa Wala,” produced by Black Sheep, centers on an old maid who owns a funeral shop.

It premiered at the 2018 QCinema International Film Festival, where it swept the top awards, including best film.

“Liway,” on the other hand, is a movie based on the true story of Martial Law survivors.

The 3rd Malaysian Golden Global Awards will run from July 14 to 19 and the awards ceremony will take place on July 20.

The film festival was established in 2017 with the goal of showcasing international films to a domestic audience while also promoting their own rising filmmaking talent. (ABS-CBN News)
