MANILA – Police have arrested Minhati Madrais, the Indonesian wife of Omar Maute, leader of the Islamic State-inspired extremists that laid siege to Marawi City, authorities confirmed yesterday.
Madrais, also known as “Baby,” was caught in their house in Steele Markers Subdivision in Barangay Tubod, Iligan City, said Senior Superintendent Leony Roy Ga, Iligan police director.
She and their six children were now in police custody.
Ga said they will coordinate with the Social Welfare department’s regional office with regard to the care for the children.
Police recovered from Madrais’ house materials used in creating improvised explosive devices and an expired Indonesian passport.
Maute was killed in a military operation in Marawi on Oct. 16 along with Abu Sayyaf Group leader Isnilon Hapilon, the supposed emir of IS in Southeast Asia.
After their deaths, President Rodrigo Duterte declared Marawi “liberated” from the threats of the extremists. (PNA)
