ILOILO City – The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) arrested 34 wanted persons and seized 29 loose firearms in a week of operations it dubbed “one, time big-time.”

Policemen also caught 20 drug suspects and confiscated 142 sachets of shabu.

“We won’t stop. We will continue our operations against all forms of illegal activities,” said Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, IPPO director.

In a recent conference with all police chiefs, Tayaba stressed the importance of running after unlicensed guns. These should be confiscated or these could end up with criminals, he explained.

He also ordered a review of each police station’s list of drug personalities and fugitives.

During a visit to Iloilo City on Aug. 14, Philippine National Police’s Director General Ronald Dela Rosa urged Western Visayas policemen to “step up” and “double-time” in the antidrug drive.

A total of 1,915 drug personalities have been arrested and 20,598 surrendered in Western Visayas since July last year after the launching of Oplan Double Barrel. But Dela Rosa was not impressed.

“Mababa ang drug personalities n’yo na nag-surrender or nahuli. Dagdagan nyo pa,” he told them during a program marking the 116th Police Service Anniversary in Camp Delgado./PN
