BACOLOD City — City councilors here want the “spate” of stoning of vehicles along the Bacolod–Silay Airport Access Road here stopped.

They requested the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office to install police outposts along the access road.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod approved during its regular session the other day a resolution making the request.

“Numerous incidents of stoning of vehicles plying the (access road) have been reported,” said Councilor Wilson Gamboa, author of the resolution.

Gamboa said the incidents were “causing heavy damage to automobiles, and endangering the life and limb of the people onboard and the pedestrians.”

Among the stoning victims were Virgilio Aguilar and his family. Their experience traumatized them, said the public works committee chair.

The access road has helped motorists and tourists go to and from the airport in a traffic-free and comfortable environment, he said.

Councilors Claudio Puentevella and Caesar Distrito coauthored the resolution.

Gamboa said they hope the provincial police will grant their request in coordination with the city governments of Bacolod, Talisay, and Silay./PN
