ILOILO City – Non-performing police station chiefs, city and provincial police directors would be reshuffled, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6). But a “zero accomplishment” in the campaign against illegal drugs may not necessarily be a bad thing as far as the Guimaras Police Provincial Office (GPPO) is concerned.
High-value targets have long left the island province making it peaceful and crime-free, according to Senior Superintendent Julio Gustilo, Guimaras police director.
The GPPO had no accomplishment in the antidrug campaign since June, said Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao, regional police director.
According to Gustilo, there were no more drug groups operating in his area and high-value targets were either already detained or have fled the province.
He also said all the 774 drug surrenderers in Guimaras underwent rehabilitation.
Guimaras’ situation would be carefully assessed, said Bulalacao. He acknowledged that it has been a peaceful province.
“Walang problema sa kanyang crime incidents. Na-maintain nya na no major incidents,” said Bulalacao.
Gustilo had been leading the GPPO for 15 months now.
“I do my best as a police provincial director but if my best is not good enough, I will vacate my post without questions,” said Gustilo.
A month after officially assuming the PRO-6 leadership, Bulalacao ordered an evaluation of all police chiefs and commanders in the campaign against illegal drugs, illegal gambling and eight “focused crimes” (murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping, and motorcycles stealing).
“I shall set high expectations for performance, but I will be fair and just. I will match the right person to the right position,” he said on June 5, his first day in office as Western Visayas’ top policeman.
There would be a regular evaluation of provincial and city police directors and station commanders by the Regional Senior Officers Placement and Promotion Board (RSOPPB) of the PRO-6.
“Good deeds and exemplary performance will be quickly acknowledged and rewarded, while mediocre performance and misbehavior will be swiftly sanctioned and not tolerated,” said Bulalacao.
He declared as taboo “all forms of influence peddling” especially in policemen’s assignments and the promotion process.
Bulalacao assured policemen he was open to suggestions to further improve the PRO-6.
“I’m ready to listen. I solicit inputs. I’m a consultative kind of leader,” he stressed./PN
