ILOILO City – Police shot and killed a rape suspect who they said tried to shoot arresting officers himself.
The 40-year-old Luis Grande, a resident of Barangay Oracon Norte, Sibunag, Guimaras, died of a gunshot wound on the chest.
Officers out to serve him a warrant of arrest found the suspect at 11:30 a.m. on Monday in Barangay Concordia, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, said Chief Inspector Ahley Estember, municipal police head.
They flagged down Grande, who was then driving a motorcycle. The suspect pulled over but then drew out a .38 revolver and fired at the officers.
No one was hit from among the police. One of the officers then returned fire, hitting the suspect on the chest, Estember said.
Grande was taken to the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital in Jordan town where he was pronounced “dead on arrival.”
Estember disclosed that his own two daughters charged Grande with rape.
“He (Grande) left home and hid in Nueva Valencia,” said the police official./PN
