ILOILO City – The police officer accused by his housemaid of rape has been disarmed and placed under restrictive custody by the Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo police station.

Police Officer 2 Herbert Padernal Jr. of the Barotac Nuevo police turned over his service firearm, a .45 pistol, to his immediate superior, Chief Inspector Reymund Celoso yesterday.

A complaint for violation of Republic Act 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act) was filed against Padernal on Monday at the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutor’s Office by the housemaid through the Barotac Nuevo police’s Women and Children’s Desk.

Padernal, who denied raping his 15-year-old housemaid, was also relieved from his assignment as driver of the police station’s patrol car and security of the Barotac Nuevo municipal hall.

“I relieved him while the investigation is ongoing,” said Senior Superintendent Harold Tuzon, provincial police director.

He did not discount the possibility that Padernal would be charged administratively, too.

If the housemaid were to be believed, she was raped on Jan. 22./PN
