ILOILO City – A police officer has been tagged a suspect in the stealing of a parked motorcycle in Barangay San Jose Ward, Pototan, Iloilo on Wednesday.

Police Corporal Darrel Dumaraog, a 34-year-old resident of Bago City, Negros Occidental and assigned to the Regional Mobile Force Battalion in Iloilo province, was arrested by colleagues in his office in Barangay Jibolo, Janiuay, Iloilo and detained at the Pototan police station.

The complainant in this case is village chief Nicky Pescuela, 39, of Barangay Lopez Jaena Ward, Pototan.

His motorcycle had disappeared from the spot where he left it and sought a review of the recording of a nearby security camera. Then he named the suspect.

“(Dumaraog) was arrested through a hot pursuit operation. We recovered the motorcycle in his office,” said Major Roy Tayona, Pototan police chief.

Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) director, Brigadier General Leo Francisco, lamented the incident.

“If evidence warrants, appropriate charges shall be filed and we will let the law run its course,” said Francisco.

He also assured the public that “the PRO-6 leadership has not been remiss in reminding all its personnel to strictly abide with the rules and policies of the (police) organization.”

“All personnel who violate the laws and/or are involved in illegal activities will face the consequences,” Francisco added./PN
