Policemen hailed for arresting colleague with boxes of liquor

ILOILO – Policemen of Santa Barbara town earned praises for arresting a fellow cop who was transporting boxes of liquor.

These policemen were courageous and disciplined, said Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).

On Friday night, Santa Barbara policemen manning the quarantine control point in Barangay Cabugao Sur at the boundary of their town and the adjacent municipality of Pavia apprehended Police Staff Sergeant Paul Pingoy, assigned at the PRO-6’s Intelligence Division, and companion Adolfo Patiam, 30.

Cops discovered 30 boxes of liquor in Pingoy’s Toyota Innova vehicle.

Pingoy, a 39-year-old resident of Santa Barbara, and Patiam face a charge for violation of the province-wide liquor ban imposed by Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.

“Perhaps he thought the policemen won’t check his vehicle because he introduced himself as a Philippine National Police member,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Gilbert Gorero, PRO-6 spokesperson.

Pingoy and Patian were taken to the Santa Barbara police station.

Pamuspusan immediately relieved Pingoy from his post.

Pingoy would be restricted at the PRO-6 after posting bail.

“We condemn the recent offense committed by one of our police officers…We will not tolerate wrongdoings of our personnel. Appropriate criminal and administrative charges shall be filed against the offender,” said Pamuspusan./PN
