BACOLOD City – The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Negros Occidental is expecting an increase in the prices of pork and chicken.
Pork currently costs between P240 and P260 a kilo, according to PVO head, Dr. Placeda Lemana, citing their price monitoring in public markets.
In some towns and cities, the price of pork is around P280 a kilo.
Dressed chicken increased by P5 per kilo while eggs increased by P0.25 apiece.
The price of pork roast, or lechon, is now pegged between P7,000 and P8,000, although there are also reports of lechon priced at P10,000 in some areas of the province.
Current lechon prices are also close to the estimates lechon sellers in Bacolod City gave last week. A whole lechon weighing between 14 and 16 kilos is being sold between P8,000 and P9,000. The said price increased by more than P100 compared to last year.
Lemana said prices will likely further increase as Christmas and New Year draw near./PN
