Pork price hike hits WV

The price of pork increased all over Region 6, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).

DA reported that prices went up from P245 per kilo in March to P255 per kilo this April. The province of Antique was especially affected with P270 per kilo. DA Regional Director Remelyn Recoter said the price hike was due to pig farmers selling their livestock to buyers in Manila.

“Ang nagapamakal bala diri sa region sang baboy nga ginadala sa Manila kay sa amon monitoring sa Sibalom sa Antique may ara nga nagapamakal nga P170 per kilo ang live breed,” Recoter explained.

Records show almost 70, 000 heads of live hogs had been sent on the third week of March. Recoter however, believes that prices will go down once supplies from other regions arrive, citing President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order (EO) 128 EO 128 will “temporarily modify the rates of import duty on fresh, chilled or frozen meat of swine under Section 1611 of Republic Act Number 10863 otherwise known as the “Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.”/PN
