BACOLOD City – The implementation of Executive Order (EO) No. 09, Series of 2024, has led to a decrease in pork prices here, observed a week after its enforcement.
The Local Price Coordinating Council’s recent surveillance indicated a reduction to as low as P385 per kilogram, down from P410.
City Administrator Lucille Gelvolea said some vendors at Burgos Market are now selling pork for P385 per kilogram.
Prices vary in other markets, such as Libertad, where pork is sold for P400 per kilogram, influenced by the source of the swine.
This price monitoring initiative followed Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez’s directive for the council to meet and tackle the issue of rising pork costs. EO No. 29, issued on February 23, introduces further regulations on swine product movement protocols, enhancing measures established in Department of Agriculture (DA) Administrative Circular No. 02, series of 2022, and amending DA Administrative Circular No. 12, series of 2019.
Despite the city opening up to local swine imports from provinces like Bohol and Palawan, the supply remains insufficient.
“However, we are collaborating with other provinces and local suppliers in Negros Occidental to increase deliveries gradually, aiming to further reduce prices,” Gelvolea emphasized.
She also assured consumers that, despite the price drop, pork weights remain accurate, with the Department of Trade and Industry and the council vigilantly monitoring weighing scales. Gelvolea encourages consumers to report any discrepancies in scales to the city or the DTI immediately./PN
