BACOLOD City – The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Negros Occidental has confirmed a rise in pork prices across the province this March.
Dr. Placeda Lemana, the provincial veterinarian, said the highest price for pork reached between P373 and P400 per kilogram while the lowest ranged from P320 to P366 per kilogram as of March 3.
“The cheapest price of pork is at P320 per kilogram in Isabela town and the most expensive is in San Carlos City and the towns of Pulupandan, San Enrique and Hinobaan where prices range from P373 to P400 per kilogram,” Lemana said.
When compared to the market price of P366 per kilogram on February 24, she said the current price is higher by approximately P6.94 to P7 per kilogram.
The PVO also anticipates further price hikes in the coming months due to local farmers selling their live pigs to traders in Panay Island, where prices are higher.
“Among the main reasons for the higher prices this month include low supply and high demand for pork in Negros Occidental and other provinces in Western Visayas,” Lemana said. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
