BACOLOD City – The price and supply of pork in Negros Occidental remain stable ahead of the holidays next month, according to the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO).

Dr. Placeda Lemana, acting PVO head, said there have been no changes over the past few weeks.

Lemana said pork in neighboring Iloilo province, which is currently battling an outbreak of the African Swine Fever (ASF), has even become cheaper.

“Sa Iloilo nagbarato gid ang ila to nga baboy, sa aton diri ya na-maintain ta ang [presyo],” Lemana said.

At present, the price of pork sold in some parts of Bacolod City is averaging between P250 and P260.

When asked if Negros Occidental has enough supply of hogs for lechon, which is usually served at holiday parties, Lemana said production of hogs in the province remains high.

But she pointed out that as demand for lechon increases in December, price increase is also possible.

Lemana is also adamant that the province can meet next month’s demand, as Negros Occidental is capable of increasing its hog production./PN
