PASSI City – Fritz Bryan Porras of Guimaras bagged two gold medals in the 2nd Pintados De Passi Chess Tournament held recently at the Passi City Arena here.
Porras, a member of the Iloilo Kisela Knights in Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP), took the gold medal in open category of blitz event after notching six out of seven points.
Porras’ Kisela Knights teammates Cesar Mariano and Dennis Bernas settled for first and second runner up places, respectively, after finishing with 5.5 points each.
For winning the open category gold in blitz event, Porras took home the top prize of P3,000 while Mariano and Bernas ended up with P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.
National Master Porras also bagged a gold in the open category of standard event with his five points, while Bernas and Kisela Knights’’ Mark Jossel Mariano finished runner ups.
Porras captured P6,000 top cash prize along with trophy for topping the standard event, while Bernas and Mariano had P4,000 and P3,000 as prizes, respectively.
Keith Haniel Magoliman of Guimaras also ruled the 16-under categories of Blitz and Standard events. In both categories, Kurt Kevin Ladot and Neil Matthew Lademora ended up with silver and bronze, respectively.
Chester Acuyong of Roxas City, meanwhile, clinched two gold medals in the Blitz and Standard events of 14-Under category. He has a total of P5,000 for ruling the two events.
Iloilo City’s Faith Argenal, on the other hand, took home the championships in 12-Under Blitz and Standard events. The Ilongga has P5,000 total cash prize for her twin victories.
Iloilo City’s Gil Libutaque, meanwhile, got a special award as Top Senior (60 above) player, while Passi City’s Dan Warren Demure was cited as Youngest participant. They both got P500.
