ILOILO City – The construction of three ramps and one backup area in Barangay Manoc-manoc on Boracay Island will soon start after the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) was able to comply with the required documents.
In an interview, Eduardo Goles, Division Manager A of the PPA Panay-Guimaras Port Management Office (PMO), said they were able to secure a locational clearance and the environmental compliance certificate only last month.
Goles said the construction of the three ramps and one backup area is funded by the Department of Transportation at P60 million. The Panay-Guimaras PMO of PPA was just tasked to implement the project.
“All goods and consumables that will be brought to the island from the mainland will pass through this (ramp),” he said.
He explained that right now there is no facility for vessels and barge bringing goods to the island. Instead they only dock at the shoreline.
Also, the garbage and debris being shipped from the island to the mainland will have to pass through the ramp.
He added that the Cagban Port is intended only for tourists and other passengers.
“This one is intended for cargoes,” he stated.
He said that had they started the project on time, it could have been completed in time for the island’s soft opening this Oct. 26.
However, they will try to fast track the construction for the project to be completed earlier than the one-year target. (PNA)
