ILOILO City – With the official campaign period kicking off on Thursday, Oct. 19, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued a reminder to the 6,760 candidates spanning 180 barangays in this city to adhere to guidelines for posting campaign materials.

Jonathan Sayno, Election Assistant II of Iloilo City Comelec, accentuated that only designated common poster areas should be used for campaign materials.

“From the onset of the campaign period, candidates and their supporters must strictly adhere to the rules about where campaign posters can be placed,” Sayno told Panay News.

The stipulated size for campaign materials is two feet by three feet.

Such materials should also bear the caption “political advertisement paid by” followed by the address of the payer.

If candidates fund their own campaigns, they need to mention their names and addresses.

While candidates can display campaign materials on private property, it requires owner consent, and the size specifications must be met.

Sayno emphasized that public spaces like posts and trees are not earmarked for campaign posters.

Violations by candidates could lead to disqualification from the barangay and SK elections.

“Potential disqualification cases could arise from such infractions,” Sayno noted.

Campaign materials positioned outside the designated zones will be discarded by Comelec officials during their checks.

Acknowledging the manpower constraints, Sayno urged the public to report infringements to the Comelec office, their Facebook page, or the Philippine National Police, using videos or photos as evidence.

“The public’s assistance is crucial. Our staff strength is quite limited,” Sayno stated.

Additionally, only one campaign material per candidate is permissible in a given designated posting area.

“Multiple posters lead to clutter. Moreover, it’s not obligatory to post these materials,” Sayno pointed out.

Sayno also cautioned candidates against premature campaigning, which could result in disqualification or incarceration.
