ILOILO City – One of the suspects in the rape-slay of a hotel receptionist was shot dead in Brgy. Bagacay, Pototan, Iloilo.
The 45-year-old Gaspar Asuero, a village watchman in Barangay Cauayan, Pototan, succumbed two fatal gunshot wounds on the jaw.
Asuero was one of the suspects in the rape and killing of 24-year-old Mhe Ann Gumban on September 26, 2013 in Barangay Cauayan, Pototan.
Asuero was killed around 11:30 a.m. in what was emerging to be a setup, said Senior Insp. Ariel Corceno, Pototan police chief.
A tricycle driver, he was transporting a woman passenger, said Corceno, citing statements from witnesses.
When they reached a secluded area of Barangay Bagacay, the woman passenger told Asuero to stop.
Suddenly, a motorcycle with two riders appeared; the back rider shot Asuero twice.
The suspects quickly left the crime scene with the woman.
It was unclear if Asuero’s death was related to the Gumban rape-slay.
Gumban worked in Boracay Island and at the time of her death was on a short vacation in Pototan./PN
