ILOILO – The Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 has granted the Pototan Rural Health Unit and Birthing Clinic a License to Operate (LTO) as a primary care facility.

Located in Barangay Malusgod and headed and managed by Dr. Rodina Mondragon, it is the first government facility in Region 6 to have been granted the LTO as a primary care facility.

“Proud gid kita sa Pototan Rural Health Unit and Birthing Clinic, now a primary care facility, the first ever nga government facility in Region 6 nga gin-license or gin-accredit by the DOH,” said Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) head.

The local government unit (LGU) of Pototan, headed by Mayor Rafael Enrique P. Lazaro, has equipped the facility with an ambulance, a portable ultrasound, and oxygen tanks, among others.

Under Administrative Order No. 0047, Series of 2020, with the subject “Rules and Regulations Governing the Licensure of Primary Care Facilities in the Philippines,” a primary care facility should be able to provide ancillary services such as clinical laboratory, diagnostic radiologic services, pharmacy, birthing services, dental services, and ambulance service.

The success of the Pototan RHU and Birthing Clinic should inspire other RHUs in the province, according to Quiñon.

“Manami kon magiging primary care facility ka kay ang services nga mahatag sang RHUs mapanigurado gid nga standard kay naka-meet sang minimum requirement para sa primary primary care facilities and services,” Quiñon added.

Before being conferred with the LTO as a primary care facility, the available services, manpower, capability, and capacity of the RHU, among others, were assessed and validated to ensure compliance with licensing standards and requirements under Department Order 2020-0047./PN
