ILOILO – Mayor Juancho Alvarez of Ajuy town issued an ultimatum to the owner of a poultry farm in Brgy. Bucana Bunglas.
Residents were complaining of the foul odor and flies from the farm that raises some 14,000 heads of chicken.
Alvarez gave the owner, Atty. Serafin Longno until June 30 to harvest the chickens.
Residents held a picket in front of the municipal hall and urged the mayor to take action.
“It was agreed that chickens be harvested by June 30 and they could not re-open unless they comply with requirements, one of which is that they have to clean the poultry farm,” Alvarez said.
Alvarez ordered the Municipal Health Office to monitor the poultry farm’s compliance.
In an ocular inspection, the MHO found four violations of the poultry farm:
- no Environment Compliance Certificate from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources
- no sanitary permit
- no drainage for liquid waste, and
- failure to apply lime on chicken wastes to reduce the foul odor./PN
