BACOLOD City – The three electric cooperatives in Negros Occidental announced a drop in their residential power rates for this month.
Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) said t its residential rate this month dropped by almost P0.17 per kilowatt hour (kWh).
Its present rate is P8.4127 per kWh from P8.5826 per kWh in October.
Ceneco general manager Sulpicio Lagarde Jr. said the decrease was due to lower energy market prices.
This was the fourth consecutive month that Ceneco slashed its residential rates beginning in August.
The total amount of rates reduced was P1.3523 per kWh, said Lagarde.
Ceneco serves consumers in the cities of Bacolod, Bago, Talisay, and Silay and the municipalities of Murcia and Salvador Benedicto.
In southern Negros, Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (Noceco) which covers the areas from Pulupandan to Hinoba-an reported a P0.04 per kWh reduction in its residential rate for November.
From P8.5309 per kWh in October, the rate dropped to P8.4925 per kWh this month.
NOCECO general manager Jonas Discaya said the lower electricity rate this month was due to the P0.1752 per kWh decrease in the generation charge.
The systems loss rate also posted a reduction of P0.0004 per kWh.
“The lower cost of generation rate offsets the increase in transmission and subsidy rates which resulted to the reduction of the overall electricity rate in the month of November,” said Discaya.
The Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (Noneco) has not yet finalized its residential rate for November but one of its manager, Paulino Almedelia, said they also expect a slight rate decrease, based on the movement of generation and transmission charges. (PNA)
