BORACAY – After typhoon Ursula struck the region last month, around 202 linemen from the regions of Visayas and Mindanao went on a mission to quickly restore electricity services in affected areas in Aklan and Antique.
Task Force Kapatid Ursula – a workforce of electric line workers from 22 different electric cooperatives – has contributed to the power restoration in around 146,000 member-consumers.
According to the Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco), power restoration efforts are almost complete in the damaged parts of the franchise area within just four weeks.
As of Jan. 21, Akelco has reached 99.60 percent of its “re-energization target.”
The power
distributor said the recent typhoon left an estimated damage of around P152
million while some electric posts were destroyed.
No serious
injuries were reported throughout the restoration period, it added.
Meanwhile, Akelco officials honored the linesmen from the 22 electric cooperatives with a send-off ceremony in Numancia, Aklan on Jan. 24.
Akelco general manager Engr. Alexis Regalado showed gratitude to the linesmen from Iloilo, Cebu, Bohol, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Lanao del Norte, among others for their commitment and dedication during the power restoration efforts.
Regalado said the voluntary work and their cooperative efforts with the residents proved the “community spirit” still exists.(With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
