ILOILO City – MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) has donated 500 rapid test kits on the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to the Iloilo City government.
In a turnover ceremony at city hall, Mayor Jerry Treñas accepted the donation saying, “Our good God has once again blessed us with a very big help from a generous person, Ricky Razon.”
“The City of Iloilo thanks MORE Electric and Power Corp. through the leadership of their president and chief operating officer Mr. Roel Z. Castro for this act of benevolence during this crisis,” added Treñas.
The test kits will help the city government battle COVID-19, stressed the mayor on Saturday.
Treñas had been pushing for stepped up testing to detect those infected so they could be isolated and treated.
“MORE Power through its principal Mr. Enrique K. Razon ensures our support to the city government of Iloilo and to the Ilonggos at this time when we all need to stand together as one as we combat COVID-19,” Castro said in response.
The World Health Organization continues to recommend that testing, isolating and treating every suspected case, and tracing every contact, must be the backbone of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in every country.
Aside from the
rapid test kits, MORE Power also donated 90 reams of bond paper, 500 sets of
personal protective equipment and 1,000 pieces of surgical masks.
On the same day, MORE Power’s donation of 125 test kits was also turned over to
the provincial government of Iloilo through the Provincial Administrator’s
Office, Provincial Legal Office, and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and
Management Office with their respective representatives, Atty. Suzette Mamon,
Atty. Dennis Ventilacion, and Dr. Jerry Bionat.
In addition, 125 test kits were also turned over to the Police Regional Office
6 through Regional Director, Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan.
The donations form part of the P60-million worth of test kit purchases of Razon
from Brazil. A donation was also made to the Department of Health.
“We have received
these goods from Manila and we made the necessary and timely effort to claim
the goods from the Iloilo International Airport so that we can have them
immediately turned over to the governing agencies,” Castro added.
Last week, MORE Power donated and distributed facemasks, alcohol, sanitizers,
and food packs worth P1 million to frontliners in Iloilo City to which Castro
said, “As a public utility company, we at MORE Power are imparting our share of
help to our frontliners who are tirelessly battling the threats of COVID-19.”
“We will continuously offer all possible means of help to the Ilonggos as we get through this crisis,” added Castro.
People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales, according to WHO.
These droplets may also land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth./PN
