PRC-Capiz calls for blood donation amid spike in dengue cases

CAPIZ – The Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Capiz encouraged residents to donate blood as it recorded depletion in type O platelet concentrate due to the rising dengue cases.

PRC-Capiz said their office is open to cater walk-in donors to help refill the type O platelet concentrate needed by dengue patients.

“Please be advised that currently, we are experiencing an increased demand for platelet concentrate particularly for blood type O due to dengue cases these past days,” read part of the announcement of PRC-Capiz.

It added: “As of now, our platelet supply is almost depleted and we would like to ask for your assistance to strengthen our campaign in voluntary blood donation in coming days.”

PRC-Capiz, however, clarified that they have more than enough supply of whole blood, packed red cell, and fresh frozen plasma for all blood types at its blood center.

This province logged 933 dengue cases with one death from January 1 to July 27 this year, data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.
