ILOILO City – In each voting center for the May 9, 2022 elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) here plan to set up an “isolated polling precinct” for voters exhibiting flu-like symptoms.
City Election Assistant II Jonathan Sayno said they will ask schools to identify a room for the “isolated” voting precinct.
The election will proceed regardless of the pandemic alert level of the city, he stressed, and registered voters can cast their votes regardless of their vaccination status.
“We could not predict the condition of people and their health status on Election Day,” said Sayno, thus the plan to have “isolated” voting precincts.
Medical personnel will monitor the body temperature of people entering voting centers.
“If they have symptoms, they will be isolated. Their official ballot will be pulled out from their designated precincts and brought to the ‘isolated precinct’ where they can safely cast their votes,” said Sayno.
Iloilo City has 64 voting centers – these are public schools.
It also has 330,470 registered voters.
In a related story, candidates are being reminded to display campaign materials only in designated common poster areas – mostly district plazas.
Sayno said they met with local candidates and coordinators of national candidates and party-list groups and raffled their designated spots in the common poster areas last week.
The common poster areas are the following:
* Plaza Libertad facing JM Basa Street, City Proper
* Plaza Villa facing Iloilo Supermart, Arevalo District Health Center and Arevalo Police Station on Rizal Street
* Plaza Jaro facing Ledi Supermart up to LandBank of the Philippines-Jaro
* Plaza La Paz facing Huervana Street and La Paz Police station
* Lapuz Plaza facing Bo. Obrero Catholic Church
* Plaza Mandurriao facing Mandurriao Police Station on R. Mapa Street
* Plaza Molo facing Molo Caltex Station and Molo Mansion on Locsin Street
Each political party is given an area of 12 x 16 feet. (With a report from the Philippine News Agency/PN)
