DUMAGUETE City – Journalists are observing the Press Freedom Week.
Discussions on martial law with invited panelists were aired over radio station dyEM FM at noon on Tuesday.
A candlelight vigil and forum on martial law years were set to follow at sundown at the Silliman University amphitheater, said Dumaguete Press Club president Juancho Gallarde.
The press was also set to have a fellowship dinner with Henrietta de Villa, national chairperson of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) and former ambassador to the Vatican, at 7 p.m.
After serving at the helm of the PPCRV for 25 years, de Villa will leave the post on Oct. 31.
The Diocese of Dumaguete is hosting the dinner.
Today, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) will hold a forum on job contractualization with Department of Labor and Employment officials as guest panelists at a local hotel.
At 9 a.m. on Thursday, journalists will participate in a Zumba and a boodle fight, while briefings on the Philippine Ports Authority’s programs and on press freedom will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Media workers will also hold a vigil and tribute at the wake of broadcaster Nick Diate, who died early this week due to a lingering ailment.
Gallarde said the activities were approved in a hastily called meeting on Monday afternoon.
Aside from the PIA and the local press club, the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas-Negros Oriental chapter is also involved in the observance that ends on Saturday. (PNA)
