Pringle carries Terrafirma to upset win over TNT in PBA

MANILA – Stanley Pringle stepped up in the fourth quarter as Terrafirma Dyip pulled off an 84-72 upset over TNT Tropang Giga for their maiden win in the 2024 PBA Governors’ Cup last night at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

Following the exit of import Antonio Hester Jr. due to an injury in the fourth quarter, Paolo Hernandez and Andreas Cahilig connected back-to-back triples to turn a 62-64 deficit to a 69-64 advantage.

After two free throws by TNT’s Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Pringle connected three layups and four free throws to give Terrafirma a 79-70 lead before sealing the win with a three-pointer from Aldrech Ramos.

“When I was in the bench, other guys stepped it up, and I just came in late in the game and helped the team win,” said Pringle, who finished with 18 points, 13 coming in the fourth quarter, to go with five rebounds and two assists.

Hester led the way with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Mark Louie Sangalang added 10 markers for the Dyip, which bowed out of playoff contention with their 1-8 win-loss slate.

Hollis-Jefferson had a near triple-double of 25 points, 11 rebounds, and nine steals, while Roger Pogoy added 23 markers, including five triples, as the Tropang Giga dropped to 7-2 win-loss slate.

On Wednesday night, Rhon Jhay Abarrientos caught fire from the outside as Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings mauled the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 112-96, and secure a quarterfinals seat with a 6-3 win-loss slate.

The No. 3 overall pick finished with a career-high of 24 points, including a 13-point stretch in the third quarter that broke the game wide open, to go with five rebounds and five assists for the Gin Kings.

Japeth Aguilar added 21 markers and eight rebounds, Earl Scottie Thompson contributed 20 points, six rebounds, and six assists, while Justin Brownlee and Maverick Ahanmisi had 13 and 12, respectively, for the Gin Kings.
