ILOILO City – The private sector is helping the city government make the Ilonggos feel the spirit of Christmas despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, private companies committed to beatify six public plazas with Christmas decors and lights at their own expense.
“Bal-an na nila nga sa subong, indi kita ka gasto gid kay limitado ang aton kapasidad,” said Treñas.
Since the start of the community quarantine in March, the private sector has been extending support to the city government – in kind and in cash.
“Kanami sang aton public-private partnership. Bisan sa mga Christmas decorations, nagabulig ang aton private sector,” Treñas said.
Last year, the private sector also did the same. Aside from public plazas, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Iloilo and Zonta Club of Iloilo City II spearheaded a Christmas lantern project.
Over 1,500 Christmas parols illuminated major streets.
This year, the official switch-on of Christmas parols will be headed by Miss Universe-Philippines Rabiya Mateo on Nov. 13./PN
