BACOLOD City – The Police Regional Office 18 (PRO-18) cannot spread itself too thin.
It is deploying only 50 police officers as augmentation force during the MassKara Festival from Oct. 1 to 23 — way lower than the 250 the city government here requested.
Of the 50 officers, 25 will come from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and the Regional Public Safety Battalion.
They will include one police commissioned officer, 19 male police noncommissioned officers (PNCOs) and five female PNCOs.
“Since the PRO-18 is a newly created regional office, some of our personnel have two designations or dual tasks,” said Chief Inspector Dianne Grace Catedral, regional police spokesperson.
Because of this, PRO-18 director Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban approved only a 50-man augmentation force, said Catedral.
“Another reason is that … sasabay ang Buglasan Festival in Dumaguete (City, Negros Oriental),” from Oct. 14 to 23, she said.
The local government of Dumaguete requested 32 officers as augmentation force, and this was approved, said Catedral./PN
