ILOILO City – Domestic tourists visiting Boracay Island should feel safe, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
On top of enhancing police visibility, it established the Boracay Operation Command Center to “centralize” security measures and installed 25 security cameras to closely monitor the goings on in the island resort.
Boracay reopened on June 16 but only to domestic tourists within Western Visayas who are above 21 years old but not over 59 years old.
Those 21 years old and younger and those 60 years old and older are considered most vulnerable to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), according to the Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force (BIATF) overseeing the island’s massive rehabilitation.
Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, regional police director, said the police station of Malay, Aklan which has jurisdiction over Boracay Island conducted a series of trainings – on, among others, the enforcement of the minimum health standards / protocols – prior to the June 16 reopening.
“We ensure the strict implementation of protocols established by the task force,” Pamuspusan said.
He appealed for the tourists’ cooperation, pointing out that the COVID-19 pandemic is not over yet.
“Observe social distancing and wear facemask. Dapat tayong maging maingat,” said Pamuspusan.
