ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has launched a region-wide audit of all police operatives as it intensifies its internal cleansing campaign, with the regional police director stressing that officers with substantiated complaints will be removed from operational assignments.
Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said the comprehensive review is part of a broader effort to preserve the integrity of the police organization across Western Visayas.
“Our initial instruction was that length of service in a particular unit should not automatically be a reason for reassignment. If an operative has no complaints against him and continues to perform well, then merely being assigned to a unit for a long time is not a basis for removal,” Tuaño said.
“What we’re looking at are the complaints supported by evidence. We are cleansing the list of our operatives so that the actions of a few will not affect the overall image of the police force in PRO-6,” he added.
Tuaño emphasized that police officers will not be reassigned or removed based on rumors or unverified allegations.
“If an operative has accumulated complaints supported by evidence, then that is something we will act upon. If an officer has been performing his duties properly and has no record of misconduct, there is no reason to remove him simply because he has been assigned to the same unit for a long period,” Tuaño added.
According to the regional director, the internal cleansing seeks to remove erring personnel from operational duties while safeguarding the reputation of the majority of police officers who continue to perform their jobs with honesty and professionalism.
“Only qualified and trustworthy personnel must remain in operational assignments. We do not want the misconduct of a few individuals to tarnish the reputation of the many police officers who are honestly performing their duties,” said Tuaño.
He assured the public that any police personnel found to have violated the law or police regulations would face appropriate administrative and criminal charges./PN
