ILOILO City – Brigadier General Jack Wanky, the regional director of Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), refuted allegations that the Philippine National Police (PNP) is the “biggest crime group.”
The claims were made by Police Lieutenant Colonel Jovy Espenido – who had a short stint at the PRO-6 as deputy city director for operations of the Bacolod City Police Office back in late 2019 to early 2020 – during a recent committee hearing in the House of Representatives.
Wanky described Espenido’s accusations as “sweeping” and “unfair” during a press briefing on Monday.
He questioned Espenido’s credibility to make such a claim without being in a significant command position such as the Chief of PNP.
“Where exactly were his assignments?” asked Wanky.
Citing the dedication and professionalism of his police force, particularly in combating illegal drugs and other criminal activities, Wanky expressed his concern over the generalization made by Espenido.
“It is unfair to everyone. From what he’s saying, we don’t see any syndicates here. Our PNP officers are all professionals, and you can see how they work, especially in our fight against illegal drugs,” Wanky emphasized.
Wanky also pointed out the sacrifices made by police officers under his command, some of whom have lost their lives in the line of duty. He stressed that such comments were particularly unfair to those making ultimate sacrifices./PN
