ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has assured the public that the illegal drug situation in Western Visayas remains under control, despite the seizure of a significant volume of shabu in recent months.
PRO-6 director Brigadier General Jack Wanky said the region is not facing an alarming drug crisis. He credited the surge in drug seizures to the strong cooperation between law enforcement and the community.
“The trust and confidence of the community in us led to more information being shared about the activities of drug peddlers. We’ve also gained assets with direct contact with suspects, allowing us to launch timely operations before the drugs could be distributed,” Wanky said.
From January to February this year, PRO-6 confiscated a total of P83 million worth of shabu and arrested 678 drug personalities — the largest seizure on record in the region.
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) led the anti-drug operations with P26 million worth of drugs seized, followed by the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) with a combined haul of P17 million.
Wanky said operations will continue to intensify, with a focus on high-value drug pushers in the region./PN
