PRO-6 generals, colonels submit courtesy resignation before Jan. 9

For representation only.

ILOILO City – The two police generals and third level officers (colonels) of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) submitted their courtesy resignation to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. before Jan. 9.

Brigadier General Leo Francisco, PRO-6 director, confirmed that he, the other brigadier general and 29 colonels heeded the call of Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr.

“It depends naman sa itaas if they will accept our courtesy resignation kasi wala naman tayong involvement sa illegal drugs. But as part of the internal cleansing sa hanay ng organization we have to follow the order,” Francisco told Panay News yesterday.

He added that since the death of two drug lords in Western Visayas – Melvin Odicta and Richard Prevendido – he hadn’t heard anymore of any PRO-6 police personnel linked to illegal drugs.

Odicta and wife Meriam were shot to death on Aug. 29, 2016 at the Caticlan Jetty Port in Malay, Aklan while Prevendido was shot to death in a police operation in Barangay Balabago, Jaro, Iloilo City on Sept. 1, 2017.

“We have to follow the order of Secretary Abalos. Willing naman po kami for evaluation kasi we are not guilty and we are not involved in illegal drugs,” Francisco said.

Abalos believed his appeal for the courtesy resignation of PNP officials may be the quickest way for the country to address the drug menace that has infiltrated the police force./PN
