ILOILO City – Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) director Brigadier General Jack Wanky has ordered all police directors in the region to intensify operations against illegal gambling.
Wanky ordered all city and provincial directors to wipe out illegal gambling, especially the “bookies,” through the formation of a task group focused on the campaign.
“My marching order to all city and provincial directors is to intensify their campaign or focus on illegal gambling, especially bookies, kasi nagreklamo na mga legal, especially the Small Town Lottery. This is the order of our PNP (Philippine National Police) chief General Benjamin Acorda Jr., to get rid of illegal gambling in Western Visayas,” Wanky said.
PRO-6 data showed that from Feb. 16 to 25, a total of 106 persons were caught in 27 operations against illegal gambling. Bet money amounting to P18,626 was also confiscated.
Wanky reminded his men of the “no-take policy,” as they would be facing stiffer sanctions.
Colonel Joeresty Coronica, on his part, said that he has been practicing the policy since he assumed the position of director of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
“Favor gid ko kay when I assumed ICPO chief napatuman ko na ang ‘no-take policy’ not only in illegal gambling but also against illegal drugs,” Coronica said.
Colonel Rhea Santos, director of the Guimaras Police Provincial Office, said that all orders from the higher command will be followed, especially against illegal gambling and illegal drugs.
“Whatever orders ay susundin natin basta para sa ikabubuti ng ating bansa. We are against all forms of illegal activities, so we have to hit them hard,” Santos said./PN
