ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) and the Regional Maritime Unit 6 (RMU-6) are bolstering their maritime and land safety measures in preparation for the upcoming rainy season.
Yesterday, both units conducted inspections of their search and rescue (SAR) equipment, which will be utilized during calamities such as floods and typhoons.
RMU-6 chief Colonel Ervin Glenn Provido emphasized the importance of readiness and proactive steps to minimize the potential loss of lives and property.
“With the summer season drawing to a close, we expect storms to become more prevalent,” Provido said.
e underscored the need for early preparation, particularly among SAR teams and their equipment, and highlighted coordination with other government agencies.
In addition to preparing for the rainy season, RMU-6 is intensifying its crackdown on illegal fishing activities in Western Visayas.
On Monday, three individuals were arrested for using dynamite in illegal fishing operations in the seawaters of Barangay Tanza, Roxas City.
The suspects, identified only as alias “Stephen”, “Alemar” (aged 25), and Sherlon (aged 43), all from Roxas City, were detained at Roxas City Police Station, according to an RMU-6 report./PN
