PRO-6 nabs 96 Comelec gun ban violators

ILOILO – From Aug. 28 to Oct. 12, since the start of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has arrested 96 violators across Western Visayas.

According to PRO-6, 69 firearms, along with 42 other contraband items and deadly weapons, were seized.

Additionally, 280 firearms were voluntarily surrendered by individuals, and another 130 were deposited for safekeeping.

To reinforce the Comelec gun ban, a total of 15,768 checkpoints have been set up throughout the region.

The primary objective of this restriction is to curb potential acts of violence, ensuring a peaceful and orderly barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections scheduled for Oct. 30.

The gun ban will be upheld until Nov. 29, 2023, in alignment with the Comelec’s calendar of activities.

The possession and carrying of firearms and other deadly weapons are explicitly forbidden./PN
